We are deeply honored to share that the piece displayed in Abuelita’s House is a traditional Puerto Rican folk art carreta (ox cart). Generously donated by Joe and Judy Acosta and has been in their family for generations. It originally belonged to Joe’s father, making it a meaningful symbol of heritage, hard work, and Puerto Rican rural life.

The carreta is more than décor—it represents the agricultural roots of Puerto Rico and the families who built their lives through perseverance and community.

Joe and Judy wanted this piece to go to a place that would truly appreciate it and proudly display it. We are honored that they chose Cranky’s to be its new home.

An incredible woman from Europe selflessly donated her bone marrow and saved his life. She chose to remain anonymous, but we thank her every single day.

This past weekend was a blessing we didn’t expect. A few incredible influencers posted about us on TikTok, and because of that, we were much busier than we ever imagined.

When my wife and I opened Cranky Coquí, our vision was to grow little by little — naturally, at our own pace. We are extremely grateful for the support, the love, and the excitement this community has shown us. Truly, thank you.

With that said, we also understand that we let some people down. Some guests waited too long, some walked out, and we even received our first 1-star review. To the person who left it — and to anyone who had a less-than-great experience but didn’t say a word — we are genuinely sorry. We take our mistakes personally, and we’re committed to doing better.

From the bottom of our hearts — thank you to everyone who came out to support the Cranky Coquí during our soft opening week. The love, energy, and excitement from the community were truly overwhelming. We’re humbled and grateful to be welcomed with so much warmth.

Thank you to Justin Silva for bringing a totally different football party vibe on Sunday. We cant wait to have you and Ashley back! We accomplished our vision this past week. People relaxing and a dining room full of laughter.

We also want to thank everyone for their patience as we find our rhythm. Soft openings are all about learning and adjusting — and thanks to your feedback, we’re doing just that. We’ll be adjusting our hours, menu and of course securing our liquor license to serve you better (stay tuned for updates!).

To our amazing staff, family and friends that helped us out this week. We truly could not have done this without you. ESPECIALLY OPENING NIGHT! We’ll have stories forever.

The Cranky Coquí is stretching its legs…

Tomorrow (yup you heard that right, tomorrow October 1st!) we unlock the doors in Wallingford for our soft opening. Emphasis on soft. Think of it as rehearsal dinner before the wedding. The food is real, the atmosphere is real, but we’re still tuning the details before our Grand Opening on November 1st.

We’re asking for patience, humor, and maybe a little forgiveness if things don’t go perfectly. If something’s off, tell us right away — we’d rather fix it on the spot than hear about it later. That’s how we’ll get sharper, faster.

For now, we’re BYOB. But we’ve got a full mocktail list waiting for you, so bring your favorite spirit and we’ll shake things up or set you up with anything you need for that bottle of wine or a frosty pint for your beer.

We’ve worked hard to build a place that feels fun, laid-back, and welcoming — but the truth is, the final touch is YOU. The only way to perfect Cranky Coquí is with real people filling the seats, eating, sipping, relaxing and laughing.
